The surface of these printing media is disposed by adding an ink absorption layer. But the media for printing machines don’t have the layer that can fast absorb printer ink. So it can’t be direct used for inkjet printing. If want to show the same pictures and words on printed media as printing quality, then the surface of the printed media must have fast absorption layer. When printing on these media, the absorption layer can fast absorb ink jetted from jet hole, then the pictures and words can be shown clearly, and have the same quality as printing machines. However, common printing machines use media such as copper paper, white board, white card, gold and silver paper, BOPP, PE, PET, PVC, acrylic, plastic, leather, wallpaper etc. These media don’t have absorption layers, so at present there are no inkjet printers and ink (except UV ink) that can directly print on these media and meet actual producing requirement. (It requires the effect of printing on common printing media the same as printing machine quality, and has fast speed and longtime producing ability.) For many years, people expect to conquer inkjet technology for uncoated media. The major difficulties are: first, ink drying speed should match stability of micro and normal piezoelectricity inkjet printers. If ink dries too fast, printers often have lines break during working, and the equipment can’t work steadily for long time. So the ink can’t have too fast drying speed. It only requires the special printing media has strong ink absorption ability. This subscribes fast drying speed requirement. Second, it requires good stick and connection between ink and media, and also needs fast drying ability of the ink. Because it should consider the choice of resin when added to the pigment, if the resin is not appropriate, it will affect stability and drying speed of ink, and also affect dispersibility of pigment. At present the only way to print uncoated media by micro or normal piezoelectricity printers is to use UV curable printing ink (UV printing ink). The ink should match with special equipment and add a UV curable light. Currently the printing quality can’t meet printing machine quality. The equipment is very expensive, operation cost is very high, and ink is not environmental friendly.
